Abstract

The present brief list was compiled primarily for the use of students in a course on the History of Science offered by the senior author at Southern Methodist University. It is far from complete: scholars conversant with the field will note omission of works they consider of primary importance, and the inclusion of others, to them of secondary interest. We are not sure that in every case our omissions and inclusions are fully defensible; but it is believed that this bibliography includes a very large proportion of the best works on the subject in hand.
