From the Editor

In this issue of Apuntes, we have the distinct joy of featuring work from students in the Spanish-language Master of Divinity (M.Div.) cohort at Perkins School of Theology. Their essays emerge from classrooms, congregations, and communities where theology is not an abstract exercise, but a lived, daily practice shaped by migration, economic struggle, communal resilience, and deep faith. The articles gathered here reflect a rich range of concerns: biblical interpretation rooted in Latino/a realities; constructive theological reflection attentive to the margins; pastoral questions born out of real ministry challenges; and critical engagement with culture, history, and tradition. Together, they testify to the intellectual rigor and spiritual depth present among emerging Latina/o leaders in the church and academy. This edition also highlights the importance of theological education in Spanish. For many of these authors, Spanish is not only a heart language but also the primary medium through which they question, discern, and confess God’s work in the world. Publishing their work in Apuntes affirms that serious theological reflection in Spanish belongs at the center, not the periphery, of our guild’s conversations. As you read, you will hear voices that are still being formed and yet already speak with clarity and conviction. Our hope is that these essays will both encourage and challenge the readers, inviting them to listen more closely to Latina/o experiences, to reconsider familiar theological categories, and to imagine new possibilities for ministry and mission in diverse contexts. We are grateful to the professors who have mentored these students, to the communities that have nurtured their vocations, and especially to the authors who have entrusted their work to us. May this issue of Apuntes serve not only as a record of their efforts, but also as a sign of the Spirit’s ongoing work in raising up new generations of thinkers, pastors, and leaders for the church.
