Prior to directing the Penn State University Press, from 1989 to 2009, Sandy began as copyeditor and ended as editor-in-chief at Princeton University Press. He has served on the copyright committee of the Association of American University Presses (AAUP), from 1972 to 2015, where he served as chair of that committee for twenty-four years and was also president of the AAUP from 2007-2008. Sandy currently serves on the board of directors of the Copyright Clearance Center, a position he has held since 1992
Author of The Religious Right and the Talibanization of America and Constructing Pakistan, Dr. Raja specializes in postcolonial studies, globalization theory, and the study of Islamic cultures and politics. Raja has co-edited two collections of essays, has served on the PMLA Advisory Committee, and has recently won and finished administering a one-million-dollar State Department grant as the Director of the UNT-HUML Partnership. He is currently working on his next book, Democratic Criticism: Poetics of Incitement and the Muslim Sacred.
